Nothin like a hungry trout when it takes. Even when pan fry size trot takt the bait it's exciting.

I got a story for ya Dan.

One Labour Day I was a long ways back on the Boise-Cascade lumber roads NW of Miramichi. The new road skirted the old road where a timber bridge was washed out at a small brook.

Shortly after daylight I baited my hook in a fashion I use a lot. I take a section of a small trout about 3/4" long just ahead of the tail and thread the hook along the backbone and back up through the skin so the hook "sticks out" and then thread it back through the skin so the barb is back in the flesh.

I was at the egde of the bridge facing the sun and dropped the hook in. BANG! I whipped the rod up and the trout flew off the line when the line was at it's apex... three times in less than 15 seconds. Breakfast in 15 seconds. I caught about 20 trout that day without baiting the hook again.

Of course, that only works when they are truly hungry.
