Schiller's version was the original text that Ludwig used for his little ditty. In my humble opinion, other versions fall sho I've gone through 3 Berlin Philharmonic LP's over the years. An Incredable recording with Marilyn Horne, Jeff King, Dame Joan Sutherland, Otto Klemperer conducting. It was even prettier than some banjo tunes I've heard.
