We had an inch exactly overnight - we live just outside Bude. The roads were awash this morning but we weren't in the worst-affected area. The trouble is that the ground was already saturated and the fallen leaves blocked many a drain. Our house can't flood (unless we get a 75-foot tsunami one day, coming in from Widemouth Bay). We had a severe gale last week which wreaked havoc in my garden. I'm still shifting fallen trees, one from the top of my new shed, which, miraculously, survived almost unscathed because the guilty tree had a thick, soft coat of ivy on it which cushioned its fall!
