Thread Name: 'Back When WeWere All Machines' (Kallet/Larsen)
Subject: 'Back When We Were All Machines' release
Here is a wonderful new song and video from the talented and amazing partnership of Cindy Kallet and Grey Larsen. I've condensed the email for posting purposes (and have Cindy's permission to post it here), so any errors are mine. Enjoy!
Maeve ******************************************************************** "Hello Humans! At long last, Grey Larsen and I have finally revealed what we believe to be the real truth about the Origin of the Species and The Descent of Man (and the rest of us). It's all here in this new song and video called "Back When We Were All Machines", a darkly humorous look at the modern paradox of connectedness and disconnectedness. Listen to the song http://www.kalletlarsen.com/music/3872 ("Back When We Were All Machines") and see us in our robot finery (YouTube video). If you enjoy it, you can purchase the CD, downloads, sheet music, and a choral score HERE. We would so much appreciate it if you could help spread the word!
The song is quite a departure from our usual fare, which is already quite diverse as usual fare goes. We enlisted the aid of our dear friend and superb musician, Izzy Maxwell, to help us out with some "additional sounds and manipulations" for the recorded version of this song. Then we went and made a video, which, upon the wise advice (we hope!) of Robin Tala, a trusted relative from the 20-something generation, features yours trulies in somewhat compromising costumes, romping about the coast of Maine. Please check it out!
In case you are wondering, the unusual title of this song came directly from the sleepy not-quite-awake mouth of Grey Larsen himself, as he was bombarded by a mechanistic sort of din emanating from the radio early one morning: an interlude between news segments on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition." Cindy happened to be nearby, and secretly captured these words on paper, and subsequently in song.
5% of the proceeds will go to these charitable organizations:
We felt strongly that we wanted to be able to contribute some money to organizations doing international work that we feel in some way connects to one or more of the themes of the song. To that end, we will be donating 5% of the proceeds to Partners in Health and The Center for Biological Diversity. Please help us support them. And visit this page of our website http://kalletlarsen.com/pages/page5 to learn more about these groups and view links to other organizations that are doing important work in the areas of cyberbullying, land conservation, and human rights.
As mentioned earlier, we could really use some help getting the word out about the song. in addition to wanting to help the organizations listed above, we also hope that people outside of the folk music-loving world will hear the song, like it, and check out the rest of our music, as well as that of many other fine acoustic musicians.
We are definitely aware of the irony (and inevitability) of our using the ubiquitous online social media to get our message across. So, if you are so inclined, please forward this e-mail or the links to the YouTube video and our website, share it on Facebook or any other sites that we have little clue about (!), or, even call your friends or . . . (gasp!) actually talk to them in person to recommend that they check it out. Take them out for a cup of tea or coffee, turn off your cell phone, and enjoy their company.
With thanks, and hopes that this brings an extra laugh to your day.
