Well, for a place that stays pretty much the same, there was a MAJOR alignment change discovered in the universe of The Press Room (our local pub) tonight. If one didn't pay attention to the identifications on the doors, one found oneself in the wrong loo. The Ladies' is now the Gents and vice versa. Lots of consternation and confusion amongst a) those who didn't bother to check the sign and just plunged ahead and b) those who thought it might be a practical joke. (Or an impractical joke.) Anywho, caused much hilarity (and embarrassment) over the evening.
Chris Vaughn, our resident song writing transplanted Scotsman, penned a verse (which may turn into a song or chorus of a song) and sang it before pinning it to the new Ladies' room door --
Oh! the world it's been turned upside down I don't think that's very grand, Because the place where once you sat Is the place where I now stand!
We are such creatures of habit. How long will it take before we automatically aim towards the proper door? And what will happen if we've had a Guinness or two (or five) to snap the brain synapses?
Now, though, I'll really be able to ascertain once and for all if what used to be the men's room has better acoustics than the former ladies'...what's agreed is the loos have the best acoustics in the house!
