In 2005, the last of my mother's family died, and I fell heir to the sampler embroidered by great great grandmother who was captured by the Indians. It's fair sized, in a heavy wooden frame, so it was a bit to carry.
I brought the precious relic to the airport, surrendered it, reluctanlty to security. Took it to the gate, set it down, briefly, when I found a tote bag large enough to hold it, and bought the bag. Then I bagged the sampler, clapped my hand on the handle, and didn't let go of it until I got home, and by home I mean through the front door of my house.

I'm a progressive, but I feel about my country the way I feel about that sampler. The United States has been in my family for more than 200 years. I will be damned if I'll let it go!
