MA - If you are out of touch with your family for months, would it not be the same with mudcatters?

I travel A LOT and mostly by auto. I let several people know when I'm embarking on a trip, including where I will be when, and telephone numbers. I also travel with a Sprint PCS phone (a little plug for my company ) and can be reached wherever I am. It works for emergencies, for safety, for when it's late at night and I want to talk to someone, and for others to keep track of me.

This past Spring, on my drive to Dallas from Tallahassee, Jed Marum called me three times ... to find out where I was and if all was okay. I took another trip, up North, in July. Almost every day, I received a call from a friend in Canada, just to see if I was okay.

But, if you don't want or cannot afford the expense of a wireless phone, another suggestion would be to purchase a prepaid long distance card. This way, you could call whomever, to check in.

Or maybe, after the long diatribe, what you're talking about is email. How would you go about this? Do you have a laptop? Would you access through public libraries?
