Why tell them anything? As soon as the fashion for spam cold-calling developed [10-12 years ago, was it?], I learned just to put the phone down as soon as it had revealed itself as such & never to engage in dialogue. Now an Indian accent is the trigger for my immediate hanging-up. If it is a genuine call, the caller will assume some fault on the line, I reckon, & try again. That has never happened.
