Subject: RE: BS: HELP 92 yr old w/ acute eczema
I've been struggling with a form of contact dermatitis for the past year or so. I've also tried cutting out a lot of foods, careful with soaps, shampoos, things I touch.

It's worse right now, after Thanksgiving. I suspect sugar might be part of it.

I did the research on food supplements, and the recommendation from the Dr. Weil site is to take gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) that comes from evening primrose oil, black current oil, or borage. I found evening primrose capsules and I've gradually been increasing the amount (I'm still not up to the upper recommendation, but I thought I'd build and see if it has an effect, expecting to see results gradually.) I think it is beginning to make a difference, but there are break-out episodes still, and I think for me it is diet or contact (with an allergen) related.

The way you describe his various symptoms, I would go in and ask for a panel of common sense blood work, rule out diabetes, thyroid, infection, etc. While we can offer suggestions, a physician should rule out the worst possible players before you get too far into the soaps, lotions, and herbal supplements.
