I was standing in line at the beer store (which is where one returns wine and liquor bottles as well) with a box full of bottles to return. Ahead of me were the inevitable nice middle-aged guy who lives on beer and had six cases to return, and a restaurateur and his wife with what looked like a truckload.

A woman with a small child came in behind me, assessed the wait as longer than her daughter could tolerate -- and gave me her bottles.

That was three dollars and twenty cents I never expected to have.
