I was looking for pickled herring in the store today and couldn't find any, so I'll have to expand my search tomorrow. I didn't grow up in the south so I don't have any interest in black eyed-peas, but the herring is a healthy snack I enjoy year round. 3 or 4 pieces (I prefer the wine variety) at a time, right out of the jar.
