ITV1 showed Christmas Tales: The Legend of Santa on Sunday night. Covered quite a lot of the origins, including Saint Nicholas, Odin and some of the other traditions - Chris Cringle from the German Christ Kindel (Christ Child). Even had a bit about Saturnalia with my friend Harry wrapped up in tin and flannel (and a fur cloak) and blowing his own trumpet - at least I think that's what the noise was. Could have been the instrument (which he had wrapped round him) trying to strangle him.
