I totally agree with you that we have to choose for ourselves. Free-will is ours to use. Personally I feel that my conscience is God's way of helping me choose when it comes to the moral and ethical issues although ultimately it's up to me to act on it, and as you rightly say ....live with the consequences.
I'm very glad though, that when I do make bad choices and things go wrong, God doesn't give up on me! Good thing too cos I'm very stubborn and don't always listen!!!! He's been a good guide.
