I couldn't plug the card from my new camera into the card reader on my old computer, I had to use the cable plugged into the camera to move photos into the computer. The new computer can read them, but I have the cord plugged in and may continue to use it since opening and closing the battery compartment frequently might not be good for that little camera battery compartment fastener. They're awfully lightweight, some of these new cameras.
