I know all them songs, GfinS... I mean, I was playing 'um back then and I fully understand what both Lennon and Dylan were sayin'... I also who what the Who was saying when they sang "We will not be fooled again" so it ain't like I haven't given this stuff some thought...
Here's the deal, GfinS... Yes, the Dems and Repubs are like two rival fraternities and they both are dependent on $$$ in order to run their campaigns...
One party, however, wants very much to kill off the New Deal and the other is fighting to not let that happen... That is reality... If John Lennon were still alive he certainly wouldn't just sit on the side lines singin' "Both Side Blues"... Dylan??? Well, he has always been completely apolitical...
But for the rest of us, if we really do care about real people, there really isn't much choice... We either support the one party that will fight to protect the New Deal or we don't... It's all just that simple...
BTW, sittin' out is a vote against the New Deal...
Historically this is when folk musicians stepped up... I mean, what would Woody be singin' about??? Folkies knew their place during civil rights... Lots of folkies, tho not gettin' radio time, knew there place as George Bush started 2 wars... Now you have Boss Hog trying to push the country back to somewhere around 1920 and, guess what, there are folkies out there now writing songs and saying "Hell no, you won't"...
Another 60s slogan was "Yer either part of the problem or part of the solution"... That's purdy much where the folk community should be... Sitting on the sidelines is "part of the problem"...
