Friends,
I've just stumbled upon a rare Sandy live track called "The Rigs of Time." I uploaded it just now to this group's Yahoo site, so go here and have a listen:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/SandyDennyList/files/Jayne%27s%20files/
Technical note: I didn't have any luck playing the mp3 in my browser, but I was able to download it and play up on my computer.
This is an interesting track for several reasons: it's a song available nowhere else in any official release; it's completely acapella; she's singing with others (including, I think, Richard Thompson); and there are some funny moments at the outset when two men (RT and someone else, I think) discuss the song, then Sandy flubs the intro. But after this introductory minute, there are 2 and a half minutes of sublime trad. music.
Questions:
1. Does anyone know any more about this track? I know nothing about the date or location
2. Might it be from the Eltham Well Hall show encore in 1972 as noted here on Reinhard Zierke's excellent site?
http://www.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/~zierke/shirley.collins/songs/rigsofthetime.html
3. Is the photo towards the end of the book found in the new Sandy box perhaps a photo of this same performance?
Would love to hear what you know or think of this track.
Cheers!
