I was tickled to read this, bein' as 'ow I'm a Radcliffe lad missen! Long-exiled now, I hasten to add. I remember my dad throwing small change into the street in disgust every time the Earl of Wilton's man came round, once a year, to collect the hated ground rent. When I was a lad any otter worth its salt would have stayed well away from any of the waterways of Radcliffe and environs, which were no more than industrial sewers of the worst kind. Things are much better now. I don't know whether there have been any recent sightings of otters though!
