Yes, I see what you're saying, Amos. I think that to say "cells of a larger being" is merely a metaphor or an analogy, and shouldn't be taken too literally.

A jellyfish is apparently a cooperative community of millions of tiny may be a human body, at the cellular level. Yet the jellyfish has an individual identity, a form of governing consciousness, and an individual lifespan and destiny. One wonders to what extent the millions of little beings that make up the whole jellyfish are aware of the larger picture that they are each a small part of? I think they are probably fairly much unaware of it, except when a major change occurs in the jellyfish's life, in which case they probably get a bit excited or agitated... ;-)

Kind of like we would, for example, if the planet Earth decided to rapidly change position on its axis.
