I think ya'll need to come out for a visit. We still stop for folks crossing to the door of the supermarket, help someone with a flat tire, and find lost pets. When we first moved back from the East my daughter was blown away when a rough looking oil-field guy held the door for her; she didn't know what to do! There are folks who are less than patient and jerks, but if I hold the door for them and I think they need a reminder, I say "You're welcome" in a loud voice. I figure it's a good way to get them to be more aware of what is going on.and maybe pass on the favour in some other way. To stop and smell the roses, even.:-) But, most folks out here are pretty good about being thoughtful, at least face-to-face. Driving is a whole 'nother story.
