Not all blues work on chords - if you're playing slide, you can get some nasty clashes if you play full chords underneath, and some of the other classics (like 'Big Road Blues' or 'Moon Goin' Down')have some interesting figures which would look very interesting if you try to transcribe them as chord sequences.
