""The first women to legally drink in a tavern in Quebec was on December 8, 1971. It was at "Janelle's Le Gobelet" at 8405 Rue St. Lawrence in Montreal (they were actually the first women to drink in a brasserie, which was a new category started by the authorities to allow taverns to serve women). Le Gobelet was the first to get a brasserie license (a 14 ounce glasses of draught beer cost 35 cents at the time).

In 2008, according to the liquor board, Quebec was home to just 98 brasseries and 40 taverns.
