Thread Name: Lyr Req: The Flaunting Flag of Liberty
Subject: Lyr Add: COLUMBIA'S GLORY
From The New York Songster (New York: John Liddle, 1836), page 63:

COLUMBIA'S GLORY.

The flaunting flag of liberty, of gallant sons the boast,
O never may a freeman yield upon Columbia's coast:
The only flag that freedom rears o'er emblems of the seas,
Is the flag that braved some fifty years the battles and the breeze.

To aid the trampled rights of man, or break oppression's chain,
The foremost in the battles' van, it never floats in vain,
The mariner where e'er he strays o'er every clime and seas,
To the flag that braved some fifty years the battles and the breeze.

If all unite as once we did to keep the flag unfurl'd,
Columbia still may fearless bid defiance to the world!
For force will flow o'er nation's tears, if lawless hand should cease,
Is the flag that braved some fifty years the battles and the breeze.
