But if Briggs can be so interested in 1880, why didn't we find such interest back in the '50's, if such chanties were around then? I know I keep asking the same question, but it intrigues me. Was there some kind of change in reporting styles or literary styles or just plain consciousness? What happened between Dana and Briggs?
