Very true Good Soldier. There are all kinds of possibilities, that video's not meant to show anything except some basics and something along the line of what I think Shelton was doing on Darlin' Cora. The line between thumb and index lead gets crossed all the time as others have pointed out too. I usually end up drifting into 3-finger picking myself.
