"Mr. Alex Russell, who has been secretary of Dundee and district branch of the Foundry Workers' Union for 13 years, is to resign his post as a protest because his national executive did not officially back a 'save the foundries' campaign in Dundee. A few weeks ago he organized a campaign in an attempt to keep open three foundries which the engineering firm of Urquhart Lindsay and Robertson Orchar, Limited, had announced were closing.
