Subject: RE: BS: Tech re Good Spam and New Attackers
I have one printer that's wireless capable, and a couple of times I've had to do a "full reset" that turns all the defaults on. The default is "wireless on," of course.

Every time the printer has come online with the wireless turned on it's been hit by a minimum of five separate outside sources looking for a place to steal a wi-fi hookup - within the three minutes it takes me to turn the wireless port back OFF. (The printer does an extensive turnon systems checkout that prevents immediate input to do the turnoff.)

I'm not sure whether to be most impressed with this indication that I'm living in the midst of a bunch of thieves, or to be more impressed that somebody within very close proximity apparently has the technical ability to instantly find any open wi-fi port and to attempt to access it (probably automatically).

Desparation may be a driving factor here, since I'm apparently in an rf dead zone where even cell phones don't work very well.
