A Southerner is called a Southron. We were all Yankees to the Brits, and until 1860 or so we shared the handle. Then the Federals retained it when the Secesh forces denied their connection to the Union.

During WW2 it was again anyone from the US.

In some parts of the country, it's someone from Maine, unless you're talking about baseball.
