Ditto to EJ's comments. The blues-interest contingent of Mudcat, if no one else, has always been able accept modern electrified instrumentation and blurred boundaries between genres. Other subcultures may have more narrowly-defined interests, but we all need to accept that some of us follow different forms of music and different players than do others.

That said, Rabbi-Sol's unfamiliarity with Gary Moore is not so much due to his age, or even his more-or-less folk-centric interests, but simply because he's an American. Here in the US, we had very little exposure to the Irish rock/pop scene during the 60s and 70s. We may have heard 2 or 3 Thin Lizzy songs, but the casual listener would never have learned the names of the band members. (Well, maybe one of them...)

I recognized the name on this obit thread ONLY because I watched a terrific video documentary a few years ago, "Out of Ireland: From a Whisper to a Scream." Available from Netflix, it's a nice survey of popular music emerging from Ireland through the folk-revival and blues-rock eras. Plenty of vintage footage, well worth a look...
