Nevermind the environmental cost of flying of the destruction of the ozone in the upper atmosphere where ozone is a GOOD and NECESSARY thing, we are paying far less to fly than it actually costs. The airlines are simply trying to hand some of those costs back to us. We can choose to accept that cost structure, or we can get around in other ways, or not at all. that is the capitalist party line.

If patrons in sufficient numbers to overcome Republican gridlock do not like things as they are and they feel they must fly, we should insist on airline re-regulation where there is actual answerability by people who are somewhat chosen by a somewhat election process, and not by some mysterious black cape, skull and crossbones, blood-drinking, smoke-filled room strategy-making process. This is but one of many examples of capitalism eating itself.
