I'm with Stringsinger on this. All excellent musicians accepted. But surely it would have been more in keeping with the spirit of the song if it had been done solo.
Personally I feel the same about most of the Transatlantic sessions, much too cluttered and heavy. I watched some of the programmes recently and the addition of piano and drums and percussion were completely unneccesary on most items. Personally I feel that drum kits and percussion completely ruin this series - in fact this music. It would be nice at times to have the American artists and Irish or Scottish artists doing what they do best without the "help" of those from other traditions. OK so you can argue that they have the same roots but there are differences which I feel should be shown and not all just thrown into one musical melting pot.
