Thread Name: Irish Sessions.. Where do you play?
Subject: RE: Irish Sessions.. Where do you play?
Virginia and Dave;

Best of luck to you with your traditional singers' sessiun! I discovered the Traditional and Folk Singers' Club in Boston two years ago and it is wonderful. It is not all sean nos by any means but nearly all of what is sung is traditional Irish, Scottish or English. We collect weekly dues (a dollar) and use the funds for guests performers...we have so far had Frank Harte, Sean Tyrrell, Maggie Kristol, even Liam's brother!

It is rare to find a sessiun friendly to singers (I find there have to be at least one or two musicians I am friendly with leading the sessiun and even then I wait to be asked; until then I play the boudhran--which I am far less facile with then I am with my voice so I play it quietly but in rhythm at least-- and keep my mouth shut).
