You can still get portable CD players, but nevertheless I think CDs are on their way out, and will be replaced by digital files. How will musicians sell music at their gigs? I don't know - maybe now that flash drives are so cheap they'll just sell you a loaded flash drive. I like CDs, and I like liner notes and all that, but I do believe they are part of an outmoded technology.
