The quality of the sound is not outstanding, but please consider that it comes from an original 78rpm remastered on CD with no retouch. Moreover, the chorus' beauty is bound to 'pianissimo' and 'fortissimo', and this is very difficult to reproduce with the compressed dynamic (to reduce file size) used on the web.
Format=Real Audio 3.0, 28.8 Mono, full response * Time=1:09 * Size=138kb
(available on line for a few days only - sorry)

This song comes from Piemonte (a north-western Italy's region) and lyrics are in Piemontese dialect. A wide funeral rhythm with the knell is the welcome for an emigrant who is coming home and approaching his village.

Performer: CORO SAT, Trento, Italy
Historical Recording, circa 1935

LA SPOSA MORTA

Gentil galant su l'aute montagne
l'a' senti' le cioche sune'
saralo forse la mia spuseta
ch'a i la porta a sutere'?

Gentil galant l'e' riva' a casa
L'a' truva' la porta sara'
l'a' domanda' a le sue visine
la mia spuseta dove l'e' anda'?

TRANSLATION
THE DEAD SPOUSE
A gentle man on high mountains
has heard the sound of the bells
'Perhaps they are bringing
my spouse to be buried?'

The gentle man came home
He found the door closed
He asked the neighbours
«My spouse where has she gone?»
