The pianist is better than I am. He plays it fast enough so that the dissonances of the intro turn into the poignant twinkling of the true waltz.

The piece is in the 'song and dance' format. The first part (the song) is in 6/8, then it turns to 3/4 for a more dancey, waltz part. I've often noticed that with old songs of this type, we remember only the dance part.
