Thread Name: On Jordan's Stormy Banks
Subject: Lyr Add: ON JORDAN'S STORMY BANKS (Samuel Stennett
Here are the 7 verses for On Jordan's Stormy Banks as published in
The works of Samuel Stennett. v.3
London: Thomas Tegg, 1824. p. 554-555.

(Stennett died in 1795) No chorus. Verse 6 is a question instead of a statement. It's God to Sun (not a typo) in v.4 that reigns. Other variations are mostly punctuation.

On Jordan's stormy banks I stand,
And cast a wishful eye
To Canaan's fair and happy land,
Where my possessions lie.

O the transporting, rapturous scene,
That rises to my sight!
Sweet fields, array'd in living green,
And rivers of delight!

There generous fruits, that never fail,
On trees immortal grow:
There rocks, and hills, and brooks, and vales,
With milk and honey flow.

All o'er those wide extended plains
Shines one eternal day;
There God the Sun for ever reigns,
And scatters night away.

No chilling winds, or pois'nous breath,
Can reach that healthful shore;
Sickness and sorrow, pain and death,
Are felt and fear'd no more.

When shall I reach that happy place,
And be forever blest?
When shall I see my Father's face,
And in His bosom rest?

Fill'd with delight, my raptur'd soul
Can here no longer stay;
Tho' Jordan's waves around me roll,
Fearless I'd launch away.
