Subject: RE: Help Req: Old Radio Show-Squeakin' Deacon
When I was 5 years old I was brought each weekend by my dad to a small bldg in Los Angeles where he emceed the Squeakin' Deacon radio show. It was a live broadcast either on Sat or Sun.and featured live country acts. My memory tells me that it was a VFW hall but I could be wrong. I believe Squeakin' Deacon came out of Bakersfield, CA and was very involved with the Backersfield C & W musice, ie, Buck Owens, Roy Clark, etc. I wish I had some of those radio broadcast of my dad opening, performing, then closing the radio show. Just minutes before the close of each show he would give me and my older brother the keys to the car. We would go out, turn on the radio and listen to him close the show singing Tumbling Tumbleweeds.
