"I have no desire to know the scientific make-up of the rain drop though."

So are you saying that you have no curiousity, Lizzie?

Speaking personally I would like to know EVERYTHING - but, realistically I can only know a tiny fraction of a fraction of a fraction. Nevertheless, the rigorous application of the scientific method does usually lead to some form of enlightenment. As a former practising scientist (in Industry not Academia) I found that a well-designed experiment could be as beautiful as any raindrop (especially if I had designed it myself ... he said modestly!). And I also used to gain great satisfaction from analysing the data - I used to think of it as extracting kernels of truth from, and finding beautiful patterns in, masses of numbers.

But then I'm probably just a bit weird!
