Special event at Edinburgh Folk Club, Thursday 7th April 2011

This is a very special evening where founder Edinburgh Folk Club committee member Ian Green returns to the fold and will do a special launch of his book "Fuzz to Folk... Trax of my life"
Ian is highly respected in the Scottish music scene and this book is a "very good read" and a pleasant change from much of the very dry and often "foosty" academic material which seems to prevail these days. It is the people's music after all!

In the book, Ian relates his early life and musical experiences in Forres, his subsequent move to The Capital, National Service and Police career. While serving for the then Edinburgh City Police, Ian was the main man behind the Police Folk Club affectionately known(albeit not always by serving officers) as "Fuzz Folk". He later established Edinburgh Folk Club along with John Barrow and Kenny Thompson while also editing(with John and Ken) the famous Sandy Bells Broadsheet which was arguably, in its day, much more useful for the folk scene than the innumerable web sites, forums etc especially as, back then, people were actually prepared to talk to each other in person! Ian also played a very important role in setting up the early Edinburgh Folk Festivals which, let's face it, were the best.
On retirement, instead of taking things easy(like me and most others), Ian embarked on his biggest venture of all... "Green Trax Records" which has been invaluable in the promotion of both new and old Scottish music.

Music for the evening will be supplied by Malinky

The present lineup would appear to be DAVE WOOD :: FIONA HUNTER :: STEVE BYRNE ::
guest fiddler DANIEL THORPE ::
However, I'm sure they will be as excellent as ever and they are presently Scottish Folk Band of The Year.

As support, we also feature Siobhan Miller and Jeanna Leslie

This should be a cracking night altogether. Don't miss it.
