My darling daughter, who is now 7 weeks away from graduating from college with honors, sent this email today to me, her stepdad, her father, and her stepmother (some names and details to protect, oh, whoever might need protecting): I want to let you guys in on some of the things I've been thinking about lately, pertaining to my future. Some of you may be aware that the last couple of years at H****** have been difficult for me, with regards to motivating myself and getting myself interested in my studies. I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately about what is right for me and have spoken with several "wise counselors" (my therapist, the dean of Spiritual Life at H******, etc.). I've concluded that college just isn't right for me, and I need to embark on a more independent, less structured life path that allows me to engage with the world in a way that just isn't possible for me at H******. I understand that this may come as a shock to you, since I haven't really mentioned this at all, and I understand if you react with confusion or anger, but I can't keep denying who I am. I've decided to drop out of H******, effective May 21, 2011*
*which happens to be the date of graduation this year...
After 1/16th of a second of panic, I sent her a Raspberry reply :-P
