"none-sexist"?

Dachshunds generally make excellent watchdogs. They have very acute hearing, don't miss much, and will make one hell of a racket when they hear anything suspicious. That in itself will scare off most robbers. The full size Dachshunds have a deep bark that sounds like a much bigger dog, and they can also be quite fierce to an intruder...and that's no joke. They have a very powerful bite and a totally determined attitude when on the warpath.

I don't know about strong doors. They would help, I guess, with amateur housebreakers, but the pros will break open just about anything but a steel door.

Some people around here put up "Beware Dog" signs on their property even when they don't have a dog. It helps.
