Back in the 50's I was briefly at a school where there was a boy with odd behaviour. I thought he was a bully, and could not understand why the teachers cut him a lot of slack. (To my disadvantage, as he picked on me, the change in his environment.)

With hindsight, inservice training, and a succession of ASD spectrum pupils, I suspect that he was autistic.

I also suspect that more extreme children went to ESN schools, such as they were.
