Thread Name: Folkweave radio show from the bbc
Subject: RE: Folkweave radio show from the bbc
The mighty Folkweave truck parked up at the Blundell Arms courtyard in Birkdale, Southport - home of the Bothy FSC on 24th Sept, 1973 - a Monday bolt-on as the usual night then, as now was Sunday. Cables were run through the upstairs window and the engineer sat in the function room kitchen.
It was a full house as this was considered a big deal. I also think there was free admission! There was a real buzz - the BBC actually acknowledging us!
Anyway 2 programmes were done that night. Tony Wilson, the Club's MC introduced the Resident singers, who were in effect the support to Roy Bailey - the main guest and linkman Tony Capstick did the guest spot on the second programme himself.
I was just a floor singer then, but by backing Resident Dave Whitehead's guitar and vocal with a simple tambour beat on 'Lancashire Lads' I received the princely sum of £12.50 (I still have the covering letter) and I eagerly looked forward to regular cheques for repeat broadcasts. Alas, none ever came.
The programmes were broadcast on 18th October and 29th November 1973.
I have a CD of both, done from air on cassette tapes. Average quality but a moment in time. 'It all comes back like yesterday, it almost seems like yesterday' as Al Stewart might've said!
