Mooh, I've had the same experience with the mandolin -- people don't know what that funny little instrument is. I'm a guitar player first, mandolinist second, and occasionally when I'm playing out with my band I'll ask the audience if anybody can tell me what it is. Someone generally comes up with the right answer, but the first guess is usually that it's a ukelele.
