I think this subject is too big for the straight forward linear exchange of comments that happen here abouts.

But then again we spent 2 and a bit weeks in Cuba on a 'Ramblers Worldwide Holidays'.

Cuba is not a paradise of any kind. It has it's problems and some are generated and made worse by the mostly old men who run the place. It has limited natural resouces but it's farming could be much more effective.

But it has excellent health care and education for all its people. It is largley drug and crime free and we were made endlessly welcome.

The year after we visited Peru, a country with vast mineral and other natural resources. Some people live well and very many do not. Many counties in the world are like Peru and Cuba in terms of the level of personal wealth of most people. Most countries are not like Western Europe and North Amereica.

Personally I would rather live here in Chorlton, Manchester UK and I can and do. If I had to choose a 'Third World' or 'Developing Country' Cuba would suit me fine.

End the Embargo and free the Miami Five
