I'm not sure myself. But last weekend I liberated as set of my late father-in-law's wartime notebooks, most of which were about radar and navigational gizmos and are completely indeciperable to me.
However, some were from the general lectures and talks that they were 'encouraged' to attend, and I found this:

"What is Socialism?: It's object is to create a social system in which there will be no class distinction and no private ownership of the means of production. Communism is the same, but also has the object of replacing all governments using force where necessary".

So that's what the RAF thought it meant in 1942. A bit simplistic, you might agree. No doubt they had their new chum, Uncle Joe, in mind.
