Agreed McGrath.   Additionally "prosperity" brings good and bad to an society.
The society and culture I remember in fifties Scotland has not improved in real terms over the years.....people have become insular as they became more "prosperous"

The community spirit which underpinned all facets of life has gone.
We are a community of strangers.
