I'm on a roll today - another thread ... several attemnpts to get this to stick too...

The burger musician and the drive-through single

A few fragments...

...
In a world where burgers no longer require beef, the music industry has actually scratched 'talent' off its list of requirements. The introduction of Auto-Tune software has given artists' (I use that word lightly) the ability to become superstars without being able to sing or play an instrument. Through this computer program, any off-pitch notes can easily be corrected with the click of a button.

This new stream of robot-voices has done to music what McDonalds did to food; it has become fast, unsatisfying and cheap.
...

If today's musicians are a representation of our current society, we are in deep trouble. In a world where wars are being waged both overseas and at home, we have no bands like The Clash and The Saints to stick their middle fingers up at political leaders. Instead, we have celebrities who spend more time shocking the world with their outlandish costumes and suggested sexual deviances than they spend recording quality, timeless music. In response, fans spend more time reading about celebrities in gossip magazines than they spend actually listening to the albums.

...

Talent is a rare commodity nowadays and with home studios becoming more affordable, there is no dam stopping untalented suburban superstars from scraping our eardrums with their auto-tuned classics.

With all that said, don't give up on music just yet. Musicians who play great riffs with a modern twist and a message to spread are still out there waiting to be discovered. When you do find them, take every bit of frustration these 'Burger Bands' have caused you and put it into something positive. Promote the talent that is out there because the future of music depends on it, literally.
