Thread Name: Lyr/Chords ADD: Travelling Song (Pentangle)
Subject: RE: Lyr/Chords Req: a travellers tune/song
DADGAD: I don't have the midi for "Sandwood down to Kyle" but for the Traveller's Prayer, the last song on Renbourn's Ship of Fool's cd.
Peg, the words are from the Hebrides; a man named Andrew Carmichael (I think) visited there around the late 19th century and collected what he considered the most ancient prayers and runes still extant. When I get home from work I can look up the name. Anyway, I believe John Renbourn wrote the melody and harmony for his version. I'll send the midi to Alan of Australia for his web page sometime this weekend (see Mudcat Resources for a link to Alan's page
On the Pentangle thread someone posted an anecdote about how nice Renbourn is. I've never met him, but he used to perform at the Folkways in Peterborough, New Hampshire, when it still existed, and made friends with some of the workers. When my women's chorus wanted permission to do Traveller's Prayer one of the former Folkway's people gladly contacted John, and he was happy to give us permission! I really like the way we women do it, even if I do miss the low bass notes!
