Thread Name: i have lost my singing ability HELP ME
Subject: What effect does low thyroid have on voice?
I'm a Bel Canto / coloratura by training, but age has diminished my range. I have continued to sound quite pretty, nonetheless.

I've been singing with a choir where the soprano section is quite poor, so I've taken the lead for the Easter season. Sadly, the music they are singing all is low range, low tessitura. Far below where I'm usually willing to sing -- even down to middle C and B. Nevertheless, to carry the section, I have been singing loudly at a too-low range and each time, of course, my larynx hurts. I know better.

I sing in another choir too. They sing at a slightly higher range.

In addition, I've just started Thyroid supplements. Does anyone know if this can affect my voice?

I KNOW the pushing is terrible for my voice, AND I want to know if the thyroid is making it even worse.

I'm quite afraid of becoming that old lady with a reedy and unpleasant voice who is the only one who doesn't know it--but today, I don't like how I sound!

I love this particular church, but I simply cannot sing these low songs, I need to be in the real soprano range if I intend to have a voice through my antiquity..
