My mother worked for a while in a respectable girls' boarding school, and she amused me by reporting that the girls there were taught to slice bananas logitudinally & eat them with a spoon. (We were a Freudian family.) It occurred to me, tho, that that had the advantage that you could sprinkle a little cinnamon on the banana before eating it, and I have followed that prissy practice ever since.
